Ganjar backs Kaesang's bid in Central Java V district
Ganjar dismissed the move as no threat to PDIP and still called Central Java the party's banteng stronghold.
PDI Perjuangan DPP chairman Ganjar Pranowo said PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep has the right to run as a candidate for the DPR RI from Central Java Electoral District V in the 2029 election. Speaking at the PDI Perjuangan DPP office in Central Jakarta on Sunday, Ganjar said the state guarantees citizens' rights to take part in government, so anyone may seek office. He also brushed aside the view that Kaesang's move in the district once considered a base for Puan Maharani was a challenge to PDIP. According to Ganjar, his party remains strong in Central Java. Earlier, Kaesang said he would run from Central Java V during a PSI regional coordination meeting in Solo on Saturday night. The district covers Surakarta, Sukoharjo, Klaten and Boyolali. In the 2009 election, Puan won 242.504 votes from the same district.
