G7 pushes AI access plan after US curbs Anthropic model abroad
What's new: Leaders backed a "trusted partners" scheme that could let allies use advanced US models despite Trump's foreign-access block.
G7 leaders pledged closer coordination on frontier AI after US restrictions on foreign access to Anthropic's Mythos model triggered talks on a workaround for allies. Meeting June 15-17 in Evian-les-Bains, France, the group discussed a "trusted partners" scheme that would give selected countries or companies access to advanced US AI models for cybersecurity uses. French President Emmanuel Macron said he expected progress within weeks and argued buyers would hesitate if US providers could cut off access at any time. In a joint statement, G7 leaders said finance officials, regulators and cybersecurity experts would assess AI's effects on financial stability, productivity and labor markets.
