France's Mbappe blasts Paraguay senator after racist World Cup posts

What's next: The French Football Federation plans to pursue criminal charges, and Paraguay's government rejected the senator's remarks.

Kylian Mbappe lashed out at Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla after she posted racist insults following France's 1-0 World Cup last-16 win over Paraguay in Philadelphia. Amarilla described the France captain as a "colonised Cameroonian" and mocked his education in a tirade on X after Mbappe scored the winning penalty on Saturday. Mbappe called her a "despicable woman" who was unworthy of office and said she had overshadowed Paraguay's tournament run. The French Football Federation said it would seek criminal charges over remarks it called abhorrent and unacceptable. Paraguay's government also said it deplored and rejected Amarilla's statements.
