France opens attempted murder probe after Molotov burns officer
What's new: More than 770 people were arrested nationwide, but no suspect had been detained over the Paris attack.
French prosecutors opened an attempted murder investigation after a petrol bomb struck security forces during weekend unrest in Paris, leaving a gendarme with burns and injuring others in his unit. Images showed the officer's lower leg catching fire after an incendiary device exploded near a police line in eastern Paris. Prosecutors said explosive devices were thrown at about 15 gendarmes and police officers. The Interior Ministry reported more than 770 arrests across France on Saturday and 159 law enforcement injuries during protests and Halloween celebrations. Authorities said no one had been arrested in connection with the firebomb attack, though investigators were trying to identify those responsible.
