Fortified rice case expands to 13 suspects, 15 brands
Newly, the Agriculture Ministry logged 74 rice complaints in a week, while 340 others are still being verified before referral to prosecutors.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said handling of alleged fortified rice irregularities now covers 13 suspects in eight cases involving 15 brands. At a news conference in Jakarta on Sunday (8/11), Amran also asked business operators selling rice above the highest retail price to cut prices immediately before enforcement action is taken. The Agriculture Ministry received 271 complaints on Oct. 30-Nov. 5, 2026, with 74 reports, or 27.31%, related to rice. In addition, 340 more reports are still under review and field verification before being forwarded to law enforcement. Earlier, Bareskrim Polri exposed five fortified rice brands that failed quality and nutrition standards, produced by PT DTA at Pasar Induk Beras Cipinang, East Jakarta. Police said production from April-August 2026 reached around 2,500 tons with an economic value of nearly Rp69,995 miliar.
