Former Cambridge professor Jason Arday found dead in London at 41

What's new: Police said the death in Battersea was unexpected but not believed to be suspicious.

Jason Arday, a British sociologist who resigned last week from the University of Cambridge after plagiarism allegations and intense media scrutiny, was found dead Friday in Battersea, south London. He was 41. The Metropolitan Police said a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead and that the case is being treated as unexpected, but not suspicious. Arday became Cambridge's youngest Black professor in 2023, at age 37. In his resignation statement, he said relentless accusations and public commentary had taken a profound toll. His family, in a statement released through Simon & Schuster U.K., said they were in shock and blamed a sustained campaign of abuse and misinformation.
