Florida judge seeks discipline for Trump lawyers in IRS case
What's new: The order found bad-faith conduct and raised concerns that the acting attorney general gave misleading testimony to Congress.
A federal judge in Florida referred President Donald Trump’s attorneys for possible disciplinary action after finding they acted in bad faith in a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service. U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams wrote that Trump’s team and the Justice Department used the case to give legitimacy to a deal that would have steered billions in taxpayer money through the now-defunct Anti-Weaponization Fund and shielded recipients from audits and investigations. Williams also said she was “extremely troubled” by May 19 congressional testimony from acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, writing that his explanation of why the settlement was not submitted for court review was, at best, misleading.
