Flávio Bolsonaro reaches US after Brazil loss and travel ban
What's new: Brazilian authorities were investigating whether he left despite court restrictions as Washington moved to grant visas to him and his family.
Flávio Bolsonaro arrived in the United States days after losing Brazil's presidential runoff to incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, according to ABC News and CNN Indonesia. Brazilian authorities were investigating whether Bolsonaro left the country despite a court order barring his travel while he faced corruption and money-laundering probes. ABC reported that U.S. officials had tracked plans for him to head to the United States and that the State Department would allow entry for Bolsonaro and his family and issue visas. CNN Indonesia reported his Brazilian passports had been canceled, though he also holds Italian citizenship. Lula called the departure "shameful" and said leaving Brazil suggested he had something to hide.
