Fire destroys 70 traditional homes in Sukabumi, 420 evacuated
A rice barn also burned down, and officials suspect the blaze started from an electrical short in a public toilet near Imah Gede.
A fire destroyed 70 homes in Kampung Adat Kasepuhan Ciptamulya, Sirnaresmi village, Cisolok district, Sukabumi regency, on Saturday (25/7) at about 14:00 WIB. The Sukabumi regency disaster agency, BPBD Kabupaten Sukabumi, said 70 families, or 420 people, were affected and are now staying with relatives and neighbors while waiting for emergency tents. In addition to homes, a rice barn was also reported burned. Investigators believe the fire started in a public MCK building at the edge of the settlement near Imah Gede because of an electrical short. The flames spread quickly because many houses were made of wood, roofed with ijuk, built close together, and fanned by strong winds. BPBD said there were no deaths or injuries. Residents urgently need clothing, ready-to-eat food and staple supplies.
