Fire at Degayu landfill in Pekalongan persists, deputy minister urges closure
The city government is asked to close the landfill immediately and prepare a replacement site deemed more suitable.
Fire again broke out at the Degayu Final Processing Site in Pekalongan, Central Java, since Sunday (1/11), with flames burning the south and east sides of the waste pile. Seven fire trucks were deployed, while joint personnel from Damkar, TNI, Polri, and volunteers worked to keep the blaze from spreading to other parts of the site. During an inspection on Monday (2/11), Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Faisal Malik Hendropriyono urged the Pekalongan city government to close the Degayu landfill immediately and prepare a more suitable replacement site. The appeal came after the fire recurred at the disposal facility.
