Fighting returns after 6-day Oleshky truce in Ukraine's Kherson
What's new: Ukraine said Russian forces used the pause to rotate troops, fortify positions and move ammunition before strikes resumed.
Fighting resumed in Ukraine's Kherson region after a six-day humanitarian ceasefire around the Russian-held town of Oleshky, the longest local pause since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. Ukrainian authorities said strikes hit Kherson on Monday, including a medical facility in the city center, and reported two people injured in a drone attack on a car. Ukraine's General Staff accused Russian forces of using the truce to rotate units, reinforce defenses, expand anti-drone measures and improve logistics. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said regrouping during a ceasefire was standard practice and suggested Ukraine likely did the same, while adding Moscow had no plans for similar local pauses now.
