Fifa fired COO Kevin Lamour after he opposed Infantino sell-off plan
What's next: The dismissal adds to pressure on Gianni Infantino after his bid to sell a 21% stake in a new World Cup rights company collapsed.
Fifa has removed chief operating officer Kevin Lamour, weeks after he publicly rebuked president Gianni Infantino's failed plan to sell part of the World Cup's commercial business to private investors. Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom told staff and council members that Fifa and Lamour had agreed to part ways effective Aug. 17. Lamour had called the proposed Fifa Forward Enterprise structure “the project of one person” and said the administration had been “deceived.” The plan, which would have sold 21% of the new company handling commercial and ticketing rights for Fifa competitions, was shelved on July 31 after opposition from Uefa, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation. Lamour joined Fifa in 2024 after serving at Uefa.
