Ferrari’s first EV fetches record $40 million at California charity auction

What’s new: The customized Luce sold for far above its roughly $640,000 list price, with proceeds going to Ferrari education programs.

A customized version of Ferrari’s first fully electric car sold for $40 million at a Sotheby’s charity auction during Monterey Car Week in California, setting a record price for a new car sold at auction. The vehicle was the first production chassis in Ferrari’s Luce program and featured bespoke details including a special finish, wheels and brakes. Sotheby’s did not identify the buyer. The sale came about three months after Ferrari introduced the Luce at a price of 550,000 euros, or about $640,000, and after a mixed reaction from investors and some critics over the car’s design and Ferrari’s move into EVs. Proceeds will go to Ferrari foundation education initiatives.
