Federal raid on Ilhan Omar home tied to immigration fraud probe

What's new: Investigators are examining decades-old refugee and citizenship filings and could pursue denaturalization, sources say.

Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home in Washington on Oct. 12 as part of a criminal investigation focused on her immigration paperwork, according to reports cited by multiple outlets. The sealed warrant listed conspiracy, false statements on immigration forms and immigration fraud as possible offenses. Authorities also seized Omar’s phone and issued more than a dozen subpoenas, including to relatives, the reports said. Omar, a Minnesota Democrat born in Somalia, has denied wrongdoing and called the search political intimidation. The Justice Department has not detailed the case, but officials have said citizenship cases can be pursued when naturalization was obtained unlawfully or dishonestly.
