FBI, NYPD search New York sites in police corruption probe

What's new: investigators are examining promotions and assignments, and Manhattan South Chief Jimmy McCarthy was placed on modified duty.

The FBI and New York Police Department carried out search warrants at multiple New York City locations on Wednesday as part of a criminal investigation into alleged corruption within the department. The probe centers on current and former NYPD executives and is being pursued with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau joined the searches. The NYPD said Manhattan South Chief Jimmy McCarthy was placed on modified duty. Sources identified former chief spokesperson Tarik Sheppard as another target. Agents were also seen outside the Brooklyn home of former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, though it was not clear whether he is part of the case.
