Father left 7-year-old alone on Mount Fuji for 8 hours

A father in Japan was reprimanded after leaving his 7-year-old son alone for about eight hours on Mount Fuji while he continued climbing with the boy's older brother. The child was found around 7:30 a.m. Thursday near the sixth station on the Fujinomiya route, in foggy and rainy conditions at more than 2,000 meters above sea level. Staff at a mountain hut alerted police after spotting the boy sitting on a bench with only a soft drink and snacks. Officers located the father farther up the mountain, between the seventh and eighth stations, and reunited him with his son after he came back down. Local reports said the father later apologized and called his decision careless.
