FA keeps Tuchel after England's 2-1 World Cup loss to Argentina
What's next: Thomas Tuchel is expected to stay through Euro 2028 despite criticism over the late tactical shift in Atlanta.
Thomas Tuchel will remain England coach despite a 2-1 World Cup semifinal loss to Argentina that ended the team's bid for a first men's final since 1966. The Football Association continues to back Tuchel, who signed a two-year extension in February and is expected to lead England into Euro 2028.
England led through Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute before Enzo Fernandez leveled in the 85th and Lautaro Martinez scored a 92nd-minute winner, both from Lionel Messi assists, at Atlanta Stadium. Tuchel came under fire for defensive substitutions after England went ahead, and BBC Sport reported that at least three senior players privately objected to the late approach. Tuchel said the team became too passive and dropped deeper than planned.
