Extreme rain in Chiba kills 4, leaves thousands stranded in Narita
More than 22,000 homes lost power, and about 7,000 people were stranded overnight at Narita Airport.
Extreme rain that lashed Chiba Prefecture, Japan, killed at least four people and triggered widespread flooding from Thursday night into Friday. The victims included a 66-year-old woman trapped in a submerged car, while one other person was still reported missing. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a Level 5 warning, its highest level, for heavy rain and landslides in parts of Chiba. Floodwaters inundated roads, shut several highways and disrupted trains, leaving hundreds of people stuck at Chiba Station. Transport disruptions also left about 7,000 people stranded at Narita Airport. According to Tokyo Electric Power, more than 22,000 households were still without electricity Friday morning.
