Ex-Malaysia PM Ismail Sabri charged over US$40 million assets
The court set bail at RM300.000, with a further hearing on 29 September and a possible maximum sentence of 5 years in prison.
Former Malaysia Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court for failing to declare nearly US$40 million in assets under Malaysia’s anti-corruption law. He pleaded not guilty to the charge read out on Thursday, 27 August 2026. The assets in question include deposits in ringgit and nine foreign currencies, as well as five gold bars, one silver bar and one gold coin. The court set bail at RM300.000 and scheduled the next hearing for 29 September. If convicted, Ismail Sabri faces up to five years in prison and a fine of RM100.000. The case follows an MACC investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering that also examined funds from the “Keluarga Malaysia” campaign.
