ESDM Recalculates DMO Coal Price at US$70 a Ton for PLN
The government is weighing mine costs and PLN supply needs, but the Minerba director general says no price change has been discussed yet.
The ESDM Ministry is recalculating the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) coal price scheme for PT PLN (Persero) power plants, which is currently capped at US$70 a ton. ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the government is seeking a balance so PLN is not burdened while suppliers also do not suffer losses amid rising production costs, especially for medium-calorie coal. However, Director General of Minerba Tri Winarno said that as of Monday (22/6), the government had not discussed any price adjustment. PT Bukit Asam Tbk said a revision could lift its average selling price and margins. As of May 2026, PTBA had delivered about 48 percent of this year’s assignment, while PLN supply contracts stood at 134 million tons out of 154 million tons needed in 2026.
