Enzo Maresca takes over Manchester City after Pep's 10-year era

The 46-year-old coach rejected copying Pep's style as City paid Chelsea £17 million in compensation for the move.

Enzo Maresca has officially begun his work as Manchester City’s new coach after Pep Guardiola’s departure ended a 10-year spell filled with trophies at Etihad Stadium. The 46-year-old Italian said he will not simply copy his predecessor’s approach, even though he served as Guardiola’s assistant in the 2022/23 season. Maresca said every coach has a different way of working and a different view of the game, and he wants to build his own identity at City. In his introduction to the media, he also acknowledged the huge challenge of following a manager who won 20 trophies in a decade. According to The Guardian, City hired Maresca from Chelsea by paying £17 million in compensation. He previously also led City’s elite development squad in 2020/21.
