England beat France 6-4 for World Cup third place on Saka hat trick

What's new: England secured its best World Cup finish in 60 years, while Kylian Mbappe reached 10 goals before Didier Deschamps’ final match ended in defeat.

England beat France 6-4 in Miami on Saturday to take third place at the World Cup, with Bukayo Saka scoring a hat trick in a wild playoff that swung sharply after halftime. Declan Rice put England ahead in the third minute and Ezri Konsa added another before Saka scored twice more for a 4-0 halftime lead. France surged back after the break through two goals from Kylian Mbappe and one from Bradley Barcola to cut the deficit to 4-3. Saka converted a late penalty for his third, Ousmane Dembele answered in stoppage time, and substitute Jude Bellingham sealed the result moments later. The result gave England its highest World Cup finish since 1966 and closed Didier Deschamps’ 14-year run as France coach.
