Former Cilacap migrant builds Indonesian halal shop in Taipei

Sri Rahayu has expanded from a restaurant into a Nusantara grocery shop near Taipei Grand Mosque.

Sri Purwanti, a former Indonesian migrant worker from Cilacap, Central Java, built a halal food business in Taipei after more than a decade working in Taiwan. The business grew into Kedai Sri Rahayu at No. 36, Aiguo E Rd, Zhongzheng District, not far from Taipei Grand Mosque. At first, Sri found it difficult to find Indonesian-tasting halal food when she arrived in Taiwan. She then set aside her earnings, saved money and managed her capital until she was confident enough to open a small business. Now the shop serves Indonesia's diaspora and the Muslim community in Taipei, with dishes such as sate, ayam penyet, bakso urat, pempek and Indonesian drinks. The business has also expanded into a store selling packaged foods, seasonings and Nusantara spices.
