Former Ombudsman chief Hery Susanto charged with taking Rp4.85 billion in bribes
Prosecutors linked the payments to maladministration complaints over PNBP PKH fees and mining permits involving two companies.
Former Indonesian Ombudsman chief Hery Susanto was charged with accepting a total of Rp4.85 billion in bribes, including a house, in his first trial at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday (25/6). The Attorney General's Office prosecutors said the bribes were given so Hery would use his authority in violation of the rules. The money and items were said to come from PT Toshida Indonesia, PT Dinamika Sejahtera Mandiri, Agung Winarno, and Muhammad Rosal, who represented PT Mitra Kumala Energi. According to the indictment, the payments were intended to get the Ombudsman to declare the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's decision to impose PNBP PKH payment obligations as maladministration, and to rule that the rejection of upgrades from Exploration IUP to Production Operation IUP for two companies also amounted to maladministration.
