Duane Davis gets 40 years to life in Tupac Shakur murder

What's new: prosecutors built the case largely on Davis' own memoir and interviews after the 1996 killing sat unsolved for decades.

Duane "Keffe D" Davis was sentenced in Las Vegas to 40 years to life in prison for orchestrating the 1996 drive-by killing of Tupac Shakur, closing one of the most notorious cold cases in US music history. A jury convicted Davis, 63, in August of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon. Prosecutors said he supplied the gun and ordered the shooting after Shakur and members of his entourage beat Davis' nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand hours earlier. Shakur was 25 when he was shot while riding with Marion "Suge" Knight off the Las Vegas Strip and died six days later. Davis said he would appeal. Anderson, whom prosecutors identified as the shooter, died in 1998.
