Drone explodes near Bulgaria-Romania border, 1 km from gas pipeline

What's new: Bulgaria linked the drone type to models used by Ukraine's military, but said nothing yet points to a deliberate strike.

A drone carrying what Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev described as a significant explosive load blew up in Bulgarian airspace near the Kardam crossing with Romania and about 1,000 meters from a Trans-Balkan gas pipeline compressor station. No one was hurt. Border police in Romania recorded the drone before a Bulgarian patrol saw black smoke after the blast, and Radev said neither country detected it in advance. Bulgaria's defense ministry said the debris matched a type widely used by the Ukrainian military, while adding there was no indication the incident was intentional. Ukraine denied targeting Bulgaria and said it was working with Sofia to clarify what happened.
