DPRD DKI approves environmental bylaw, setting Jakarta's 30-year course
All Jakarta development plans must now refer to the document, which tracks emissions, waste and green space among five measures.
The DPRD DKI Jakarta and the Pemerintah Provinsi DKI Jakarta adopted a Regional Regulation on the Environmental Protection and Management Plan, or RPPLH, setting the capital's environmental policy direction for the next 30 years. The bylaw was approved at a plenary session on Wednesday, August 12. The document will be integrated into regional development planning and sectoral policy, so infrastructure projects, spatial planning and investment must take environmental carrying and support capacity into account from the start. The provincial government has prepared five regular monitoring indicators: environmental quality, waste management, emissions control, biodiversity protection and the area of green open space. As of April 2026, Jakarta's green open space covered 3,703.56 hectares, or 5.59 percent of the city's area, far below the 30 percent target.
