DPR Urges Review of Decile Data as KIP Aid for Students Is at Risk

Officials are urged to open a fast appeals channel and keep aid in place until the data verification process is completed.

DPR is calling on the government to quickly review the decile data used in the National Socioeconomic Single Data system, or DTSEN, after changes in welfare categories were seen as threatening access to education assistance. Selly Andriany Gantina, a member of Commission VIII of DPR, proposed a special team to assess data quality, methodology, updates and field verification. MY Esti Wijayati, deputy chair of Commission X of DPR, also pressed for immediate fixes so students do not lose their right to study because of administrative problems. The case highlighted is Timbul, a becak driver in Malioboro, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, whose family decile changed from 1 to 9, making it difficult for his son, Luki Arya Wijaya, to access KIP Kuliah after being admitted to the Mechanical Engineering program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.
