DPR approves Nuzran Joher as Ombudsman chief for 2026-2031
Nuzran replaces Hery Susanto, who was removed after becoming a defendant in a Rp4,85 miliar bribery case tied to nickel mining governance.
In a plenary session on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, DPR approved Nuzran Joher as chairman of the Ombudsman RI for the 2026-2031 term. The appointment was led by Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, after a proposal from Commission II was discussed in a consultation meeting in place of a plenary meeting of the consultative body earlier that day. Nuzran replaces Hery Susanto, who was dishonorably dismissed by the ethics panel on June 8, 2026. Hery is now on trial at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court. Prosecutors from the Attorney General's Office charged Hery with receiving Rp4,85 miliar in bribes, including cash and a house, in a case involving nickel mining business governance.
