DPR Continues Harmonizing Asset Forfeiture Bill, Aiming for 2026

The panel is aligning the draft with the KUHP and KUHAP while gathering input during recess to protect third-party rights.

Deliberations on the Asset Forfeiture Bill are continuing in Commission III of the DPR RI and have now entered the stage of drafting and substantive harmonization. Commission III member Soedeson Tandra of the Golkar Party Faction said the draft must balance the state’s interests with protection of individual rights, including those of good-faith third parties, so it does not create room for abuse of authority. The current focus is on aligning the structure and philosophical basis of the measure with national criminal law, especially the KUHP and KUHAP, because the asset forfeiture policy is considered unable to stand alone. Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman said deliberations are still proceeding during the recess period through public input in the regions. DPR Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa had earlier targeted the bill, which is included in the 2026 Priority Prolegnas, for completion this year.
