DPR Commission XI awaits nominee for BI governor from President
Destry Damayanti is serving in an interim role under the BI law, while DPR has not yet received a fit-and-proper assignment.
DPR Commission XI has not begun the fit-and-proper review for a candidate to lead Bank Indonesia because, as of Monday, President Prabowo Subianto had not submitted a name. Deputy Chairman of Commission XI Dolfie Othniel said his commission also has not received an assignment from the DPR's Advisory Council. Amid the transition, Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti was designated acting governor of BI at the Board of Governors meeting on 26 July 2026, after Perry Warjiyo resigned voluntarily for personal reasons. Mohamad Hekal said the change in central bank leadership should not disrupt the rupiah exchange rate or market confidence. Destry said the government has not sent a recommendation for a replacement, and the post will be filled under the mechanism in the Bank Indonesia Law with DPR approval.
