DOJ subpoenas Times reporters in Air Force One leak probe

The Justice Department has ordered several New York Times journalists to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan after the paper reported security concerns about President Donald Trump’s Qatari-gifted Air Force One. The Times said federal agents delivered some subpoenas to reporters’ homes and that appearances were set for next week. The department said the inquiry targets alleged leaks of classified information, not reporters themselves. The stories at issue said Trump flew to a NATO summit in Turkey on the new plane but returned on an older aircraft after the Secret Service raised security concerns. Press-freedom groups and the Times condemned the subpoenas as a threat to First Amendment protections.
