DKI to transfer Thousand Islands ferry service to Transjakarta in 2027
The move shifts management from Dishub after officials deemed the current setup inefficient, with routes to be reorganized.
The DKI Jakarta provincial government will transfer management of sea transport to and within the Kepulauan Seribu to PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) starting in 2027. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the service, which has been run by the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, has not been efficient, so crossings from Jakarta’s mainland to the Kepulauan Seribu will be reorganized through the city-owned company. Pramono said the step is intended to give residents of the Kepulauan Seribu access to public transport equal to that of residents in Jakarta’s five administrative cities, whether traveling to the islands or to the mainland. He said Transjakarta has a strong operating record after managing more than 10,000 buses in Jakarta.
