Jakarta asks malls, offices to remove newly installed fences
Police said no protest notice has been filed, but Polda Metro formed a Preventive Strike Team and is monitoring August demo calls.
The Jakarta provincial government has asked mall and office managers to remove newly installed fences, saying the capital remains safe. Governor Pramono Anung said the fences reflect excessive concern and will later be ordered dismantled. He said DKI will coordinate with TNI, Polri and other authorities to maintain security and public order. Separately, APPBI said fences at shopping centers are installed for public order and as a clear boundary between mall grounds and public space, including in locations often passed by demonstrations. At Kota Kasablanka in South Jakarta, a new fence 100 meters long and 2.5 meters high was seen near the main entrance from Jalan Raya Casablanca. Polda Metro Jaya also said the security situation remains under control, no protest notice has been filed, but content calling for August demonstrations is still being monitored.
