DJP enlists Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas to monitor taxpayers

SE-8/PJ/2026 also opens canvassing, visits, web scraping and remote sensing to widen the tax data base.

The Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance has included Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas in its taxpayer compliance monitoring guidelines under Circular Letter SE-8/PJ/2026, issued on July 15, 2026. The document involves village- and ward-level officers in building information networks, alongside other methods such as visits, canvassing, direct observation, internet searches, web scraping and remote sensing. The rule also divides economic data collection into field and nonfield methods. The Center for Indonesian Taxation Analysis said DJP needs to explain the limits of the officers' role and the quality of the data collected, because the new scheme could trigger tax disputes and raise concerns, especially for MSMEs in rural areas.
