DHL Express rolls out AI feature for customs descriptions in RI
Customers can upload a product photo and the system drafts a customs description in seconds, reducing the risk of delays.
DHL Express has launched an AI-based item identification feature in Indonesia to help customers prepare customs-compliant product descriptions when sending parcels abroad. The feature uses computer vision to analyze photos uploaded by customers, then generates structured descriptions that match international documentation standards. DHL Express Indonesia Senior Technical Advisor Ahmad Mohamad said customs hurdles remain a challenge for many businesses, especially UMKM seeking to expand export markets. DHL said integrating AI into the shipping order process can simplify a step that has long been complicated, improve data quality, and reduce the risk of delays. Customers need only photograph the item with a smartphone or internet-connected device, then review or edit the description before it is used.
