Destry Damayanti Becomes Sole Candidate for Bank Indonesia Governor

President Prabowo Subianto has nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for Bank Indonesia Governor to DPR. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the presidential letter on the definitive BI Governor candidate has been delivered to DPR leadership. Destry currently serves as BI Senior Deputy Governor, so the transition in that post will also draw attention if she is selected. In DPR, Deputy Chairman of Commission XI Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri said the fit-and-proper test schedule has not been set because the recess period runs until 13 August 2026. Permata Bank economist Josua Pardede said monetary policy under Destry is likely to continue, with the main challenge being to maintain rupiah stability, which he expects to be in the Rp17.800-Rp18.000 range per U.S. dollar at the end of 2026.
