David Crowley wins Wisconsin governor race, makes state history
What's new: The Milwaukee County executive defeated Rep. Tom Tiffany and will become Wisconsin's first Black governor.
Democrat David Crowley won Wisconsin's governor race, defeating Republican Rep. Tom Tiffany to succeed retiring Gov. Tony Evers. The Associated Press called the race, making Crowley, the Milwaukee County executive, the first Black person elected governor of Wisconsin. Crowley campaigned on lowering costs for working families, adding jobs and protecting Medicaid funding and affordable housing. Tiffany, a three-term congressman backed by President Donald Trump, outspent Crowley with help from billionaire donors but fell short in the battleground state. Crowley had narrowly won a chaotic Democratic primary after first dropping out and later reentering the race.
