Darline Graham enters Aug. 11 GOP primary for South Carolina Senate seat

What's next: Candidate filing opens Tuesday as Trump backs Graham and Rep. Russell Fry also joins the race.

Darline Graham will seek the Republican nomination in the special election for the South Carolina Senate seat left vacant by her brother, Lindsey Graham. Graham, who was appointed last week by Gov. Henry McMaster to serve the rest of the term through January, revealed her decision in an interview clip released ahead of a Fox News airing Monday. Her move adds another contender to a compressed primary fight that already includes Rep. Russell Fry and Rep. Ralph Norman, while Rep. Nancy Mace and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette have also been considering bids. President Donald Trump endorsed Graham on Friday. The special Republican primary is set for Aug. 11, with the filing window beginning Tuesday.
