Construction starts on Legok Nangka waste-to-power plant
The Rp7,2 trillion facility is designed to process 2.000 tons of waste a day and generate 40,79 MW of electricity.
Construction of the Legok Nangka Waste-to-Energy Plant in Kabupaten Bandung officially began on Wednesday after years of delay. The facility in Nagreg is targeted to begin operations at the end of 2029, with a construction period of about 41 months. Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Yuliot Tanjung said the project has a capacity of 40,79 megawatts, can process about 2.000 tons of waste per day and will require an investment of US$400 million, or around Rp7,2 trillion. The project is also projected to absorb about 1.565 workers during construction and cut emissions by 311.874 tons of CO2 equivalent. Buky Wibawa Karya Guna, chairman of the West Java Regional Legislative Council, said the facility is important for Bandung Raya, but urged the government to prepare road access and traffic management for garbage trucks from six regencies and cities.
