Cihaur River in Bandung Barat turns red and foamy, DLH acts
DLH investigators will trace the waste source after residents reported a strong odor and water that sometimes felt hot.
The Bandung Barat regency Environmental Agency is preparing a team of Environmental Protection and Management inspectors to examine suspected pollution in the Cihaur River in Padalarang District. The move follows reports that the water in Kampung Pangkalan, Cipeundeuy village, turned red, foamed and gave off a strong odor. Observations at the scene on Friday (7/8) showed red liquid flowing from a large drainage channel embedded beside the river and going straight into the Cihaur River. Residents also said the waste flow was sometimes hot enough to appear to steam. The river is part of the Citarum watershed and flows into Saguling Reservoir. DLH said the field inspection results will be used to map the pollution source and determine action against any party found to have violated the rules.
