China condemns Houthi strikes after 1 dies in new Riyadh airport attack

What's new: Beijing warned against escalation after back-to-back strikes on Saudi airports and energy sites deepened the Yemen war.

China condemned recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia after a strike on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport killed one person and wounded 11 on Sunday. Beijing said it was seriously concerned that fighting between Riyadh and the Iran-backed Yemeni group was intensifying and urged all sides to avoid steps that would raise regional tensions. The airport attack came a day after another strike there forced operations to stop. Saudi authorities have also reported earlier attacks that killed three people on Thursday and hit oil facilities and tankers in the Red Sea. The latest violence marks a sharp escalation in the Yemen war and adds pressure on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the Houthis expand attacks inside Saudi territory.
