Chelsea beat Man United 2-0 as Martinez sees red at Stamford Bridge
What's new: United are winless in nine matches, their worst run since 1988, with pressure rising on Michael Carrick.
Chelsea beat Manchester United 2-0 on Saturday at Stamford Bridge, handing United a seventh loss in 13 games and deepening the pressure on manager Michael Carrick. After a scoreless first half in which Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha all spurned chances, Morgan Rogers broke through in the second half to put Chelsea ahead. Lisandro Martinez then unraveled in a span of 83 seconds, conceding a penalty with a reckless challenge on Wesley Fofana and being sent off after VAR reviewed an elbow on Fofana at a corner. Cole Palmer converted from the spot to seal the win, lifting Chelsea into fourth place.
