Car plows into crowd near Caen station, killing 1 and injuring 10

What's new: Seven victims were in critical condition, and police arrested a 26-year-old suspect about 12 miles away in Ouistreham.

A driver rammed a car into a group of pedestrians outside the train station in Caen, France, late Wednesday, killing one person and injuring 10 others, authorities said. Calvados prefect David Claviere said seven of the injured were in critical condition. Officials said the suspect, a 26-year-old man born in Russia, fled the scene and was arrested later in Ouistreham, about 20 kilometers away. Investigators are examining whether the attack followed a fight between two groups. Security official Bruno Coutanceau said all of the victims appeared to be men ages 17 to 40. Authorities said they were not treating the case as terrorism at this stage and opened a murder and aggravated assault investigation.
