Car hits Berlin Pride crowd, killing 1 and injuring at least 16
What's new: Police launched a manhunt and Berlin's Christopher Street Day event was canceled after the nighttime attack.
A vehicle drove into a crowd at Berlin's Christopher Street Day event late Saturday, killing one person and injuring at least 16 others, some with life-threatening wounds, police said. The incident happened near Tiergarten park after the city's annual Pride march, where hundreds of thousands had gathered earlier in the day. Witnesses cited by local media said a white van sped into the crowd shortly after 10 p.m. local time and was later abandoned. Police urged people to avoid the area and said they were searching for one or more suspects. Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the act would be fully investigated, while Mayor Kai Wegner called it an attack on Berlin's free and open society.
