Brooklyn house fire kills 6, injures 7 in Sunset Park

What's new: More than 200 responders took about three hours to control the blaze as investigators examined whether a lithium-ion battery played any role.

A fast-moving fire tore through a two-story residential building in Brooklyn's Sunset Park early Thursday, killing six people and injuring seven others, including three firefighters, New York City fire officials said. The blaze was first reported around 1:40 a.m., and more than 200 firefighters and emergency workers were sent to the scene. Four victims were found dead at the building, while two others who were critically hurt later died after being taken to a hospital. Four civilians suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, and three firefighters had minor injuries. The fire was brought under control in about three hours. Fire marshals are investigating the cause. Officials said a lithium-ion battery was found at the scene, but it was not clear whether it was connected to the fire.
