Britain, France and Germany back Zelensky-Putin ceasefire talks

What's new: The European leaders tied support to an immediate ceasefire, security guarantees for Kyiv and frozen Russian assets staying in place.

Britain, France and Germany backed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s push for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ending the war, saying Europe should take part alongside the United States. Meeting with Zelensky in London on June 7, the three leaders said any path to a just peace must begin with an immediate, complete ceasefire. They also set out conditions including legally binding security guarantees for Ukraine, possible deployment of a multinational force and keeping Russian assets immobilized until Moscow compensates Ukraine for war damage. Putin has rejected a face-to-face meeting for now, saying a long-term settlement is needed and casting doubt on Zelensky’s offer.
