Britain deploys Typhoon jets for Saudi defense after Houthi attacks
What's new: London also is sending an A400M transport plane and military advisers, while limiting the fighter missions to defense only.
Britain will send Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets to fly defensive missions over Saudi Arabia after a run of Houthi drone and missile attacks, the Ministry of Defence said Monday. The aircraft are meant to help protect Saudi cities and critical infrastructure and will not carry out strikes against the Iran-aligned Houthis. Britain is also deploying an Atlas A400M transport aircraft and military advisers, expanding support first announced in September that included an RAF Voyager refueling plane. The move followed a Saudi request as attacks on oil facilities, airports and other sites intensified. In Yemen, authorities said a Houthi strike on Oct. 19 killed 58 people at a training camp for Saudi-backed government forces.
