Brentford rout Tottenham 3-0 in De Zerbi's Premier League debut

What's new: Archie Gray became Tottenham's youngest captain at 20, but Spurs were outmuscled and opened the season with a flat loss.

Brentford opened their Premier League campaign with a commanding 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Gtech Community Stadium, handing Roberto De Zerbi a bruising defeat in his first league game in charge. Keane Lewis-Potter put Brentford ahead in the 12th minute, Vitaly Janelt doubled the lead in the 33rd, and Michael Kayode made it 3-0 early in the second half. Brentford also missed a penalty when Igor Thiago failed to convert. Tottenham, despite a summer spending spree that the Guardian reported is set to pass £300 million, were second best throughout and struggled in duels and defensive organization. Mamadou Sangaré stood out for Brentford, while Spurs captain Archie Gray, 20, later said the visitors were outfought across the pitch.
