BPS records 0.14% deflation in Indonesia in July, 2.88% annual inflation

The monthly rate reversed from 0.44% inflation in June, while year-to-date inflation reached 1.65%.

Badan Pusat Statistik said Indonesia posted 0.14% monthly deflation in July 2026, reversing from 0.44% inflation in June. On an annual basis, inflation reached 2.88%, with the Consumer Price Index rising from 108.60 in July 2025 to 111.73 in July 2026. Year-to-date inflation was recorded at 1.65%. Ateng Hartono, deputy for distribution and services statistics at BPS, presented the data at a news conference in Jakarta on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026. Earlier, Bank Mandiri economist Andry Asmoro had projected July monthly inflation of 0.03% and annual inflation of 3.06%. He said lower prices for red chilies and shallots after the peak harvest, along with normalization in nonsubsidized fuel prices, would help curb price pressures, although seasonal education costs were pushing core inflation higher.
